New OEAD-WTZ Project

22.12.2022

We have a new bilateral project with Alenka Mertelj from the Institute Jozef Stefan, Ljubljana, Slovenia. The principal investigator in Vienna is Martin Fally

Only recently, nematic liquid crystals with ferroelectric or ferromagnetic ordering were discovered. Unlike in standard nematic liquid crystals (LC) their polar character consequently also leads to macroscopic polarity. This property allows to induce orientational changes by applying rather low external electric or magnetic fields and thus to influence the structure. The aim of the proposed project is to prepare polymeric ferroelectricand ferromagnetic liquid crystal composite materials, to create diffractive structures for light and neutrons and to explore their properties.
